100 X 150 ACRYLIC ON PAPER

In all my paintings there is an omnipresent reference to the ambiguity of tropical flowers and to the violence of vegetation. But this reference is generally hidden thanks to abstraction. My intention is not to represent an ambiguous flower but to transform this very ambiguity in a way to see a different kind of reality and to mix these different elements as layers of understanding. Phalenopsis is the very common Moth Orchid (is sold even in supermarkets) whose very shape had mistaken its discoverer who mistook its epiphyte blooms (caressed by the wind) for a herd of white butterflies in the dark Philippine’s jungle. In this painting the Phalenopsis is not only ambiguousbut its petals dissolve and become something else, and entrance to hallucinating worlds.
